Native American were named when they were born. They were given a second name,  an adult name, when they were older. The names referred to something found in nature such as moon, sun, thunder, and flower. After studying about the Algonquin and the Iroquois Nations our teachers asked us to choose Native American names for ourselves. It was fun!
