Canada
by Laura
Canada, it just fascinates me! Although
I would not like to live there, it is fun to learn all
about it. Its different history, and how very
different Canada is from the U.S. For instance, did you
know that Canada is split up into different parts or
sections that they call provinces? And that the only big
difference between our states, and there provinces, are
the fact that provinces are much bigger?
One thing that interests me about
Canada is how many natural resources there are in Canada.
And how much land is used for farming. Hay, oats, and
potatoes are just a few of the products grown in Canada.
Furs, furs, and more furs. Canada has
plenty of fur farms in it. A few of the animals raised
for their furs are minks, raccoons, skunks, and foxes.
Did you know that the fur farmers wait till around
December to harvest the animals furs, because that is the
time when the animals furs are the thickest?
As you probably know most of Canada is
populated with a good variety of trees. This not only
provides work for many people, but provides plenty of
lumber, and manufacturing products, such as: newsprint,
paper, newspapers, wood pulp, rayon, film, and boards.
And these are just a few.
Many types of fish are caught in the
Atlantic Provinces. These fish provide 3 things: Food,
obviously, fish meal for chicken, and cattle, and oil is
obtained from the fishes liver.
Wow! So many minerals come out of
Canadas mining. There is coal, iron ore
And
so many more. Plenty of manufacturing products come out
of mining too like iron, steel
and many others.
The two main languages spoken in Canada
are French and English.
Ottawa is the capital of Canada. It is
still an important place for lumber, paper and many other
wood products.
Canadas government is very
interesting. They have a Prime Minister that is much like
our president. Their Parliament is what makes laws for
all of Canada. Their Parliament is much like our
Congress. A Parliament is made up of a Senate and a House
of Commons.
As you can see Canada is a very
interesting place and can be very intriguing. I enjoy
learning about Canada and I hope you like Canada as much
as I do.
Canada
and Its Ways
by Sarah
Well, you have been to the eye, the ear
and now youre going to Canada! How do you like
that, huh? I know what youre thinking, youre
probably thinking that this is going to be just as boring
and that youre wasting your money on a stinky tour
of Canada. Well , so what if my other tours were boring,
this one is going to be as exciting as it was at the end
of "Titanic"! Are you going to stay and
not complain? Great, lets go!
Okay, well start with some
geography here; now lets see, ah yes, Canada has
ten provinces and two territories. We are now passing
Newfoundland, the most eastern province, now on to New
Brunswick, and theres Ontario! Since we are by
Ontario, Ill tell you that the capital of Canada is
Ottawa and it is in Ontario. Im not going to have
time to go all around Canada but I will tell you the
other provinces: Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Nova
Scotia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and
British Columbia. The two Territories are: The Yukon and
The Northwestern Territories. Canadas official
languages are French and English. What!? Now I have to
explain why they have French as a language or we go home
and I give you your money back? Okay, see, the French had
a war against the British and the British won but they
let Quebec keep the language of French. Are you happy
now? Good! While were in history and government,
Ill tell you about the Parliament , Canadas
(what you would say ) congress. It is made up of a Senate
and a House of Commons. The Parliament is what makes
Canadas laws and rules.
How about some manufacturing? Maybe
some natural resources? You got it! Canadas natural
resources are: water, trees, asbestos and platinum.
Canada manufactures: fish meal, fish oil, wood pulp,
paper, plastic, rayon, film, newsprint, iron, steel,
butter, cheese, canned and frozen fish, canned fruit
etc.
Canada also has very good mining. They pick up
all sorts of things there! Such as: gold, silver,
platinum, copper, nickel and asbestos. They also have
coal and iron ore. Canada has a lot of forest and boy, do
they use it! They have the best lumbering system
Ive ever heard of! Fishing? You are asking me if
they have fishing there? OF COURSE THEY DO! Theyve
got lobster, mackerel, cod, herring, haddock, halibut and
more! Shiesh! You people! No offense or anything. Did I
mention that down on the plains they have great farming?
Well, they do! These are the basic farming crops (and
some fruit they grow, too) : strawberries, blueberries,
apples, seed potatoes, potatoes, hay, oats, and turnips.
Were down to the last thing (of course the one I
hate), fur farming. What is it? Oh, I hate this. Fur
farming is raising animals to kill them. Canada fur farms
raise foxes, skunks, minks and raccoons. I dont
care what you think, but personally I do not like fur
farming! Well, Im glad that part is over.
That is the end of our tour! What? Oh ,
so it wasnt boring after all!
