SALTY
SEALS by Mariana In Ecuador, Galapagos an impatient family of Galapagos fur seals were awaiting a new family member. Zarha, the main character, was hoping to have a baby brother. Her parents, Jet and Fly came up to her and said, "Meet Shawn, your new beautiful baby brother." Zarha was so filled with joy she almost woke up Shawn, while diving gracefully and elegantly into the water, she was doing flips and swirls in the salty waters of their new home. It was a small room in the saltwater lagoon near the coastline. This type of seal is almost never far from the island. Zarhas friend William, who parents were killed in a motor boat accident, came over immediately. Zarha parents told Zarha and William to bring Shawn to the rockers. It was an area with many different shapes and sizes of rocks and the rocks move back and forth like seesaws. When they arrived at the rockers, something caught Zarhas eye. It was a colorful piece of material. The label said, 'The Fur Vault'. That meant that the humans were after the thick and desired fur of the seals. Then William saw a group of wounded seals. That meant trouble. When Zarha, William and Shawn went over to the hurt seals, the seals said to assemble all of the seal clan to the rockers. William decided to stay with the injured seals so he could help them clean their cuts and so he could find some squid and fish, which is the main diet for the seals. Zarha went summon the others so they could see what had happened. Right when the last of the seals arrived, there was the sound of sheering knives. It was humans, every single one of the seals knew that the humans were the ones that caused their species to be endangered. They also knew what to do, so they started to bark loudly. Barking is their way of warning other seals if there is danger, and to ward off enemies. The humans understood that they were destroying wildlife, they also were a bit frightened. So they decided to leave the seals and their lagoon alone. The seals and William lived there in their same home for a very long time. As for Shawn, he grew up without the troubles of humans. He met a beautiful fur seal and they had children and he taught them what to do if there are humans around. Many seals have died because of humans. Helping them is something we can do. So please help them and help the future, before we die out to. |
