20 Minutes ‘Til Death
by Summer

"Julie, Elizabeth is here to see you." Julie’s brother Michael yelled.

"I’m in the attic Elizabeth," Julie yelled back. Elizabeth ran up the stairs of the attic and closed the door behind her. Then someone else was at the door. Knock, knock.

"Who is it?" asked Julie.

"Me!" called the voice behind the door.

"Get away from the door, Michael," yelled the two girls at the same time. When Michael went away Elizabeth helped Julie clean up the messy attic.

"Elizabeth, look at this!" exclaimed Julie.

"That is the prettiest mirror I’ve ever seen."

"Whose is it?"

"I don’t know. You should know, you live here, not me"

"Do you think we should throw it out?" asked Julie.

"No, let’s keep it," demanded Elizabeth.

Julie went to touch the beautiful mirror and the strangest thing happened. First the mirror said "POOF" instead of showing the girls’ reflections the way the mirror should. It showed Julie’s mother dropping her favorite glass elephant that was once Julie’s grandmother’s. The girls looked at each other and they froze stiff. They stayed that way for about 20 minutes. All of a sudden the girls heard a loud sound that came from the kitchen. It sounded like broken glass. Then the girls heard Julie’s mother crying and they knew that Julie’s mother had dropped the glass elephant. Elizabeth and Julie heard Julie’s mom downstairs crying, and they thought it was best if they just left her alone for awhile.

"This certainly is not an ordinary mirror," exclaimed Julie.

"What do you think we should do with it?" asked Elizabeth.

"Let’s take it down to the basement so we won’t be bothered by my stupid brother!" suggested Julie.

The two girls carried the heavy mirror down the stairs to the basement and Julie asked Elizabeth to touch the mirror one more time, and being that Elizabeth considered herself brave she did it. Then that strange thing happened again. The mirror said "POOF" and it showed Elizabeth’s mother in her car driving to work and crashing, then her mother died!

Elizabeth was terrified she didn’t know what to do, she told Julie all she wanted to believe was that Julie’s mom’s elephant was just a coincidence but she didn’t understand how a picture appeared on the mirror and happened in real life 20 minutes after.

"My mom didn’t go to work yet, so we have to find a way to stop her from going to work," exclaimed Elizabeth.

"What do you think we should do, go and tell your mother all about our mirror and that she shouldn’t go to work because she’s going to die?"

"That’s a good idea!"

"I was exaggerating, stupid!"

"Hey, who are you calling stupid?"

"Come on, we have to save my mom!"

The girls rode their bikes as fast as they could to Elizabeth’s house, to try to stop Elizabeth’s mom. They throw down their bikes and ran into the house ,then they ran in to Elizabeth’s father.

"Dad, where is mom?" asked Elizabeth, out of breath.

"Cool down, your mom’s upstairs getting ready for work and I wouldn’t bother her if I was you because.

The girls didn’t even give Elizabeth’s father a chance to finish his sentence. They simply ran upstairs and searched for her mom.

"Mom, Mom where are you?" shouted Elizabeth on the top of her lungs.

"Mrs. Fig where are you?" called out Julie.

"I’m in my room, dolls. What seems to be the problem?"

The girls told Elizabeth’s mother everything there was to know about their future mirror and to top it off the two girls stared to cry because they did not want her to die!

"I’ll stay home. Besides I need a break anyway!

"Thanks, mom, I love you and I never ever want to lose you!"

"I love you too, Mrs. Fig, and I just couldn’t bear having my best friend sad all the time without a mother!"

"Well, thanks girls, I love you gals, too! Hey, since I’m not going to work how would you gals like it if we go have a yummy ice cream cone just the two of us?"

"That sounds cool and all but I have to call my mom first." said Julie.

Julie called her mom and she said it’s okay if Julie goes but it’s not okay if she doesn’t go, too!

So the 2 moms and the two brave best friends went to Carvel’s for 4 yummy ice cream cones.

The End
