 Dear Mom and Dad,

How are you doing? I'm okay. I miss both of you a lot. I love it here in Guyana and I'm sure you will too!

The food here is great! The most common foods in Guyana are English roastbeef, tea appear with Indian curries, Chinese noodles, chow mein, and my favorite, pudding. For breakfast, which is the main food of the day, is served at 11:30 A.M. Supper is served around 5:30 P.M. to 6:00P.M.

Some people in Guyana wear Indian clothing like their ancestors did. Some wear western clothing, which is more modern! Whatever clothes they wear they are always beautiful, bright colors, and lovely designs.

They play lots of fun games in Guyana like volleyball, cricket, basketball, and soccer. Cricket is like baseball, but they don't use a bat to hit the ball.

Guyana is very small. In 1988, the population was estimated to about 1,006,000. In 1993, it went up to 1,086,000. In 1995, it went down to 754,000.

For money, Guyanese use Guyana dollars. 139 of there dollars will equal 1 of our dollars.

In Guyana there are fourteen languages that are spoken. Only 4 to 5% of the people speak Berbice, Creole, Dutch, and about 650,000 people speak Guyanese. Most people speak English, so we won't have to learn how to speak a different language.

91% of the Guyanese population is literate. Guyana has one of the highest literacy rates among new nations of the world.

Guyana’s health is very good. For every 1,000 babies that are born only 36 will die. America for every 1,000 babies that are born 58 to 60 will die. I don’t know what Guyana is doing that America isn’t doing, it is working. In some houses there is no sanitation, but we will be sure not to buy one of those houses.

There is a small town in Guyana called Georgetown. Get this mom and dad, it is also the capital of Guyana. There is a river that flows through it called Damerara. The airport that is not too far from the river, is called Temehri Airport. Georgetown is also bordered by water called the Atlantic Ocean. In Guyana there are a lot of roads, seaports, airlines, and railroad tracks.

Towards the east of Guyana the land is mostly flat. Towards the west of Guyana the land is mostly rolling hills. The land is not dry. When you come here to stay, you should expect a lot of rain, mainly from the months of April and September. These months are the rain season.

I have been to a lot of places in Guyana already! I can take you various places I have visited. I recommend us to first go see the beautiful rain forests or may be we can go see people dig for gold under the sand in the water. We can do a lot of things together like horseback riding, hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, bird watching, take river trips, and so much more.

I can not wait to see you soon. Take care now.

Love your little girl,

Summer
