Dear Mom and Dad,

It's great down here in Havana, Cuba. The weather is always warm because Cuba is close to the equator. It will be hard for you to understand what people are saying because you don't know how to speak Spanish. There are a lot of people in Cuba, I heard one man say that there were about 12,324,200 people living on this island. Cuba is also communist. That might give you some trouble when you get here. So don't expect a warm welcome from them.

The food down here is really good. There are all kinds of tropical fruits. There are beans and potatoes of all kinds. There is this really great omelet in a tortilla that will fill you right up. For dessert they have all different kinds of ice cream. Dad, they also have lobster and crab. Cubans love sugarcane. It is their main harvest, and it is pretty good, too. You should try it.

Now here is where it is located so you won't get lost on the way here. It is located in the Caribbean Islands. To be more exact it is west of Haiti, south of Florida and north of Jamaica. You may know it as the West Indies.

The land is perfect. There are hills for Chris, Kim and I to roll down. There are deep bays, too. Mom, this is probably your favorite, there are plenty of nice sandy beaches so you can get your tan. Dad this one's for you, there are plenty of beautiful coral reefs so you can go scuba diving, and hopefully teach me how.

Maybe you can get Pop-pop to come with you so he can do some wonderful fishing. I hear that there are some big fish down here. Dad you can also watch some great baseball. Cubans love to play it. Once they even let me play. The rules change a little though. At night you can come to the festivals and dance or just relax and listen to the music.

I checked out this really cool place in Havana with my new friend Diego Martinez. He can speak both English and Spanish. I want you to meet him and his family they are really nice. They are letting me stay at their house until you get here. Now about that cool place, it is called Fort Morro in Havana. It is an enormous fort that is right by the water. Another place I found was DuPont Mansion in Varadero. The Martinez family brought me there to see it. See you when you get here. I love you.

Your Son,
Jonathan
