Dear Mom and Dad,
Hi, Mom and Dad how are you I'm fine. During the time I have been here, I
have been doing constant research about Guyana. I have a friend here named George and he
helps me with all my research. Sometimes I don't even need to go to the library.
Every morning we eat at 11:30, so before you come I suggest you practice eating at 11:30, I know I had trouble. We only have two meals a day so you will need to practice eating at different times.
I had no trouble here at all, I fit in just fine because In Guyana most people speak English, so there is no hassle learning another language. Here a Guyanese dollar is equal to $140 American dollars. Our capital is called Georgetown. Thats how my friend George got his name. By the way, he says hello.
The climate here is very different from New York's. It is tropical, humid, and it has two raining seasons May to mid August. It's raining buckets right now, but it's just the beginning I guess. You guys shouldn't worry about your clothing here in Guyana. People wear shorts and jeans all the time. There are no gestures that you have to learn about you're in luck. In Guyana people do not judge you by the way you look thats one of their best qualities.
There are many foods here such as tropical fruits, and vegetables. In Guyanese cooking, many people cook with lots of herbs and spices. Most people cook according to their culture. Mom, I checked, you can get most of the American foods here, like roast beef, bananas, pears, advocates and many other foods.
Now that I have told you all he good parts of Guyana, here comes the bad part. As I was doing research I found that Guyana has a high crime rate in certain areas of Guyana. I am in an area that is safe people are very pleasant and friendly.Well, Mom and Dad, I hope we will live here or else I just did all this research for nothing. I have made a whole bunch of friends. I have just been invited to one of my friend's sister's ceremonial rituals. She is one of the Hindu religion. During this ritual the couple jointly places their offerings in a ceremonial fire. Oh, before I forget, in Guyana there are many contagious diseases. Such as Malaria, Cholera Dengue Fever, and typhroid.
You know how Matt is very adventurous well I looked up some main attractions and I spotted Kaieteur Falls its 741 ft . It's 5 times bigger Niagara Falls. It has rainbow colors throughout the whole waterfall. Matt will go crazy, I know he'll love it. Well, I hope my research will do you good. The easiest way to get here is by plane. Mom, the flight should be a short one so do not worry you will be fine. I know how you're afraid to fly. Matt is going to be so excited. Hope to see you guys soon. Have to go.
Love you always,
Kailey
