Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. Genoa had a busy seaport. Ships sailed in and out. Christopher dreamed of sailing and at 19 he joined a crew ship. When Queen Isabella gave him permission, he started his trip to the Indies. He left Spain with three ships, the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. Columbus returned to Spain in March 1493 as a hero. He discovered America and more places and was an explorer. He returned to Spain in 1504 and two years later he died.
