A Portrait of
Abraham Lincoln
by Samantha

Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin. Abe had an older sister named Sarah. He had a lot of hard chores to do. He loved school even though he almost never got to go to school. Abe never gave up on learning how to read and write. By the time he was ten, his mother died. Then he got a stepmother. Abe grew up in Kentucky and Indiana. When Abe grew up, he tried many jobs. He was a farmer, a carpenter, he worked on a riverboat and opened a store, a lawyer and, last but not least, he was a president. Then the Civil War began. It was a bad war and many people died. On April 15, 1865 an angry man shot and killed President Lincoln.
