Michelle Kwan Time Line Events
1980~ July 7, Michelle Kwan was born in Torrance California.
1985~ At age 5, Michelle’s parents took her to one of her brother’s ice hockey games. She decided to lace up and glide on the ice.
1986~ Karen, her older sister, starts to skate with Michelle.
1987~ Michelle Kwan enters two World Championships and wins silver medals for both! Tara Lipinski won gold in both championships.
1993~ Coach Frank Caroll sees Michelle skate. He notices that she needs discipline! He later becomes her coach.
1994~ At the US Figure Skating Championships, Michelle gets a silver medal, coming in second place after Tonya Harding.
Michelle enters her first World Championships and finishes eighth.
1995~ At the Worlds, she finishes fourth, the audience "boos" the judges since she was the only woman to land seven triples! The judges say that they want a more mature adult figure skater.
1996~ In this year Michelle enters ten competitions and proudly wins nine of them and becomes the World Champion.
1998~ This year, Michelle Kwan entered the Winter Olympics and proudly won the silver medal.
2002~ Michelle Kwan enters the Winter Olympics but gets disappointed when she receives third place, which is the bronze medal.
2003~ Michelle Kwan defeats Sara Hughes, the Olympic Champion, in 1 of the events this year.
2006~ Michelle Kwan is selected to skate for the US Olympic team. Stay tuned to watch her at Torino, Italy!
February 10, 2006~ She is pulled out of the Olympics because of an injury and is replaced by Sarah Hughes.
