Olympic Stadium

Torino, Italy

The Torino Winter Olympic Stadium was made in 1933 and has a new steel roof that is the new look for this historic building. The outer edge is supported by tie rods. Also, a new ice hockey stadium was built in June 2002. The design was by Arata Isozaki. The design can fit up to 12,500 fans during the hockey games. It’s a gigantic roof spans up to 90 meters.

The stainless steel frontage, thought to show eternity, was chosen for being tough and strong and long-lasting. The front is made of window slots (glass). This doesn’t only allow light in the building, but also breaks the permanence of the stainless steel.

The NBC network paid $2.3 billion to host the 2006 Winter Olympics, held in Torino, Italy.

Salt Lake City

Located in Utah, America. Designed by local architect Gillies, Stansky, Brems and Smith. Layton Construction recycled steel, aluminum, concrete, cardboard, bricks and asphalt to be able to use later on in the process.

This Stadium has a cable-supported roof in the skating arena which was built with steel cages. This also has 3.5in diameter suspension cables for the incredible 655ft times 310ft building. This strung from 109-ft mast and 50ft on centre. Furthermore its 69ft from the buildings side wall. Layton construction had to pour 975yds of concrete in the skating area. This job took 9 hours. Chuck Hoberman, inventor of the toy sphere, designed the structure of the composed aluminum latticework.
