Many things happened and were invented in the year of 1915. Many things
were invented and founded for warfare because the year of 1915 was in the time
of World War I. Submarines are first used to attack and fighter airplanes are
first used. In 1915 the Ku
Klux Klan had around about 8 million members, mostly in the South and the Midwest.
The First
wireless communications between the
United States and Japan occured.
- On January 28 President
Wilson signed a bill creating the United States Coast
Guard.
- On May 7 a British passenger ship the Lusitania was
torpedoed
by a German U-boat, because the Germans claimed they were armed and warned. The
Lusitania carried 1,906 passengers of the 1,906 passengers 746 were
rescued and 1,142 were victims
and died.
- On May 31 Zeppelins
bombed London.
- On June 21 Ziegfeld
Follies showed at the New
Amsterdam Theater. It stared W.C. Fields, Ed Wynn, and George White.
- Ty
Cobb, "the Georgia Peach," set a new record for stolen bases,
96.
- Booker
Taliaferro Washington dies on
November 14. He wrote an autobiography about his life as a slave.
- President Woodrow
Wilson gets married to Edith Bolling
Galt on December 18, 1915.
- In 1915 the first depth
charges were
developed in Britain against the German U-boats. Depth Charges are a steel
drum filled with T.N.T., which are dropped off a boat and intend to hit the
submarines and explode.
- The movie Birth
of a Nation was directed and filmed.
It was a very racist movie but it was an American landmark film masterpiece.
This movie was used to show how America should stay to the whites and that the
African Americans should not be in America. It is still used now days for
recruiting for the Klan. It was directed by D. W. Griffith who used close-up,
fade-out, and flashbacks, pioneering film techniques.
- The first long
distance phone line was created by
Alexander Graham from New York to San Francisco.
- The first mechanical
pencil was invented in Japan by
Tokuji Hayakawa.
