1935
was a very exciting, and hard year. The Federal Government was working to help
people through the WPA. Since
the country was in a depression many people had time to sit and think of
different way to pass the time. Maybe that's how Monopoly got started by Mr.
Darrow, or Enid Bagnold came up with the book National Velvet. Also
people had a lot of time to play their favorite sports like baseball. Which is
exactly what the two teams did when they played at the first night game at
Cincinnati's Crosley Field in 1935. The events that happened during 1935 will
never be forgotten.
- The first Orange
Bowl is played on January 1 in Miami, Florida. Bucknell was invited to
play the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Bison routed Miami, Florida
26-0.
- On January 24, Krueger
Beer introduces the first canned beer.
- The first
major league night baseball game is played May 14 at Cincinnati's Crosley
Field.
- Ex-alcoholic Bill Wilson founds alcoholics-anonymous

- The National
Youth Administration is created June 26 as a division of the WPA.
- The Social
Security Act was signed into law August 14.
- A physician Carl
Austin shot Louisiana Governor Huey
Long to death September 8.
- On October 23, a gunman wounds mobster Dutch
Shulz in Newark, New Jersey. Schultz died the next morning.
- The western part of the United States
became a Dust
Bowl. The horrible conditions stopped highway traffic, closed schools,
and turned day into night.
- Max
Factor of Hollywood opens a super salon in the film Capital.
- Charles B. Darrow showed his idea for a
game called Monopoly
to the Parker Brothers. At first they were not interested.
- The U.S. Army
Air Corps has its beginning in the General Headquarters Air Force

America.
