Curriculum and Instruction
Our school district is committed to the principle of continuous progress through ongoing review and assessment. Curriculum review cycles allow for in depth study and evaluation of subject areas and textbooks every four-five years.
Curriculum "guide posts," based on New York State learning standards, have been completed for English/Language Arts and are being developed for math. The guide posts are designed to ensure the continuum of skills between grade levels and to address any skill gaps in the curriculum.
A note regarding the math guideposts linked here:
Our teachers began developing the math guideposts during the spring of 2006. However, due to the recent adoption of a new math series this fall, the sequence in which certain units were originally taught has changed and continues to be refined. Thus, the order in which they appear in these documents does not necessarily reflect the exact order in which they are currently being taught. The guideposts for grades 3-8 do remain separated into “Pre-March” and “Post-March” sections, denoting the content covered before and after the New York State math exams.
