Under the Rug
by Emmanuel

Two weeks passed and it happened again. The window was open in my living room. The house was getting hot with the oven on. Cars were honking and beeping as the drove back and forth through rush hour traffic. I could hear crickets near the woods. I was glad to be home. As I heated my dinner up the smell of chicken, rice, mashed potatoes and carrots scented the house. Just as I was going to sit down to eat dinner I heard that noise again! At first I thought it might have been outside. I heard the sound of a book falling from the bookshelf. Then I heard a scary noise coming from the living room. It sent shivers up my spine. I slowly got up from the table and tip-toed into the living room. I saw this huge circular object moving under the rug. I quietly picked up a chair and raised it over my head. I was about to hit what was making that scary noise under the rug, Just then, a huge hungry looking raccoon was in my window, It was me and ran back out. I tiptoed back in the the kitchen and got a piece of chicken and put it by the window sill in the living room. I hid behind the wall and peeked out. I saw a round, huge thing moving under the rug towards the chicken smell in the window. It jumped from out of the corner of the rug and grabbed the chicken with its sharp teeth and leaped out of the window. I slammed the window shut. Next time I won't cook with the window open again!!
