Mr. Linden's Library
By Sharon

"Why can't I check out the book?" asked Valerie. "Because that book is dangerous!" answered Mr. Linden, the librarian. The Linden Library was a very strange place. If you read a book, whatever pictures were on that page would pop out at you. One book caught Valerie's eye. It was about plants. Valerie wanted her own garden. For some reason, Mr. Linden wouldn't let her get the book. Her mother was with her that day. She told Mr. Linden, "What my daughter wants is what she gets!" Mr. Linden did not like getting scolded, so he let them get the book. When they got home, Valerie jumped on the bed and opened the book. She felt something tickle her arm. Well, maybe it's just a breeze, she thought. Then, she couldn't move her leg. "Okay, that was not a breeze." She told herself. She saw some ivy wrapping around her. She couldn't breath. "I shouldn't have gotten the book," she choked. There was a loud plop from Valerie's room. Her mom felt kind of nervous because of what Mr. Linden had told them about the book. She went to Valerie's room. When she spotted Valerie with her eyes closed completely, she dashed towards her. She found the book opened on the ivy page and rushed to close it. For a moment she thought she could save Valerie. Mr. Linden had warned them about the the book. Now it was too late. Then, she heard Valerie speak. Her eyes opened a little. "Don't forget me," she whispered. Then her eyes closed again. Her mother never forgot her.
