What is the
reason behind this outrage?
Is taxation without representation unjust? According to the Sons and
Daughters of Liberty, it is. Only our elected representatives should have the
right to pass taxes. Like the Sons of Liberty, we should be active in resisting
the Stamp Act. We should be able to have a say in Parliament. We are willing to
pay, but only if the taxes are passed and approved by us or our colonial
legislators. We have always thought of taxes as a way to regulate business, not
a way to raise money. But, we see the Stamp Act as a way to raise money in our
colonies without our approval. We should stand up for what we believe in and
make our rights become reality!
Will
boycotting cause repealing of the
Stamp Act?
Boycotting is one way to stand up for our rights without using violence. We should refuse to buy all goods and services dealing with the Stamp Act. If everyone decides to join in and boycott, it will make British merchants suffer. Eventually, Parliament will have to repeal the Stamp Act. Delegates from our colonies have written petitions that said the Stamp Act was unwanted in the colonies. But Parliament hasn’t paid any attention at all to our requests. It is time that we do something about it ourselves!!!
