Danger! Watch out I tell you. Foreigners are
here to capture us and make us slaves. Young men and women, little children, and
healthy people will be taken. I tell you watch out and be very careful. Once
they capture you and take you away you will never be able to see your friends or
family ever again. Here is a short sad story of what happen to me one year ago:
A year ago early in the morning while I was sleeping some terrible noises woke me up. I ran outside and saw slave catchers everywhere hitting my friends and some of my family with sticks and with their guns. Someone came behind me and hit me with a whip. I was terrified because there was blood everywhere. The slave catchers tried to take me away but I wouldn’t let them. Then one of them hit me again with a club on my head. I was knocked to the floor. One of them took me and threw me into the fortresses with many other slaves. Some of us died in the fortresses because we were starving. Some of us didn’t eat for at least a week. It was terrible. A lot of people died. Some women had babies in the fortresses and they died because the mother of the babies were to weak.
After a couple of weeks the ship to the New World came to pick us up. We were whipped on to the ship. All men had shackles on their feet so we would not attempt to escape. We had these shackles on for a couple of weeks. It was a horrible sight to see on the ship. Only the healthy slaves ate. Others that were not healthy were starved to death. Men danced with the women so they would stay in shape. Many of us were whipped if we weren’t obedient.
One month went by and suddenly the slave catchers started taking us out of the boat. We were washed and cleaned us up. Then they put polish on us so we looked shinier. Slave catchers started to sell us to our new owners. Slave catchers would do anything to get us sold. The cleaner and shinier we looked the faster we got sold. Some of us were sold and we were separated from our families.
That’s why I tell you. Be careful. There’s danger.
