Neptune's Equatorial diameter: 31,763 miles. Neptune is the 8th planet in our Solar System. The distance from the sun is 2.8 billion miles. Neptune was discovered in 1846 by a German astronomer named Johann Galle. Neptune travels in its orbit around the sun, but this trip takes 164 years and 10 months! It only takes 16 hours to rotate.
