On Monday morning, September 11, Marjorie Vincent, a docent from the National 9/11 Memorial Museum in NYC, visited with 5th and 6th graders from Pocantico Hills Central School District.
Mrs. Vincent not only recounted the chronology of the events that morning through age appropriate visuals and audio, but she also shared stories of heroism and allowed the students to ask questions and share their own family connections. The essential message Mrs. Vincent conveyed was that that it’s critical we not only remember the tragedy and honor those who lost their lives, but that we remember and honor all the goodness in people that was shining through that day. Last year, she donated “The Man in the Red Bandanna” to our school’s library. This year, she donated a children’s book about the boat rescue operations that day and a heartwarming book about a fruit tree that survived the destruction and is now replanted at the museum.
Special thanks to Mrs. Laura Garrido, 6th grade ELA/SS teacher for making this event happen for our students and staff.
