When We Grow Up...

We kicked off 2004 with a study of community. We read fun books like I Stink by Kate and Jim McMullan (told from a garbage truck's perspective.) We memorized the poem City by Langston Hughes. We built a wonderful 3-D community with buildings, roads, trees, and signs. We constructed buildings with toothpicks and marshmallows, and labeled them (zoo, army base, photo shop, post office, e.g.). A parent in our class who is a veterinarian came in and told us all about her career and we got to listen to a dog's heart with a stethoscope! To culminate the unit, we created a class book, "When I Grow Up," which you'll find on our page. Enjoy!
