INTERESTING PLACES TO VISIT IN CHINA
By Kayla

There are many interesting places to visit in China. First let me tell you about the city of Shanghai. Shanghai is the largest city in China.

It is very popular for its beautiful Yuyuan Gardens, which has one of the most popular sites in Shanghai, the Jade Buddha. It is made out of the exquisite jade rock. It is a 5 ton beautifully shaped stone. To get into this beautiful garden you will have to go down the zig-zag bridges. Some other things in the garden are century old furniture, calligraphy and paintings of famous artist, clay sculptures and brick carvings. China’s tallest man made building is also located in Shanghai. It is called the Jin Mao building which is 1,381 feet tall and it is located in Pudong as are the Oriental pearl television tower and the Shanghai stock exchange. The last thing I recommend you to see is the Bund. A scenic one mile road running along the rivers west and lined with hotels and office buildings built by Western nations in 1920’s.

Another reason to visit China is to see the Himalaya Mountains. There you can also see Mt. Everest which is known as the tallest mountain in the world. It is 60 million years old and 29,035 feet. The Himalaya Mountains also include 8 out of 10 of the worlds highest peaks. The land is very dangerous to travel with lots of slopes, ice and snow, many people have tried to climb Mt. Everest, but only 660 people have been successful. 140 people were not.

Last I would like to tell you about the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall of China is the longest man made structure in the world. This wall was made to stop attacks from the Nomads. The Nomads lived a very vicious life. The Great Wall winds up and down across desserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus stretching approximately 4,163 miles from east to west of china. The thickness of the walls is from 15-30 and they are up to 25 feet tall!

To conclude my trip to China, I like to tell you about all the places we went starting with Shanghai where we saw the Yuyuan Gardens then we went to see the Himalaya Mountains and saw the biggest mountain in the world called Mt. Everest.

The last place we went was the Great Wall of China where we learned about the Nomads and building of the wall.
