Women in the Revolution

Men alone did not win the American Revolution. Women helped make life easier for soldiers and some of them even fought on the front lines. Many women stayed with their husbands during the American Revolution. Some women even brought their children.

For the most part the women would cook and mend torn uniforms. Some women fought in battle pretending to be men like Deborah Sampson. Some worked as nurses helping the wounded and dying. Some became great spies and helped save lives with their bravery like Lydia Darragh who found out about a surprise attack the British were planning and notified a Patriot officer.

We had fun researching women of this time period. We hope you enjoy our reports and illustrations.
