John D. Rockefeller was born in Richford, NY in 1839. John's family moved to area near Cleveland, Ohio. He got his first job as a businessman. John got married to Laura Celestia Spelman. John opened a refinery outside Cleveland. Then The Standard Oil was formed. John bought land in Pocantico in 1893. John's autobiography was published as Random Reminiscences. John retired from The Standard Oil in 1911. John's wife, Laura, died in Pocantico Hills in 1915. John died in 1937 in Ormond Beach, Florida at the age of 97.
