Maryland

My state is Maryland. It has a lot of interesting facts. It is located on the northeastern part of the United States. The climate is warm and the size is 4,216, 446. The capital is Annapolis. Some cities are Baltimore, Silver Spring, Dundalk, Bethrsda, Towson, Wheaton, Rockville, Essex, Glen, Burnie, and Hagerstown.

Maryland also has interesting state facts that stand for it. It has a state song called "Maryland". The Baltimore Oriole bird represents Maryland. It has a state tree called the White Oak tree. It also has a state flower called the Black-eyed Susan flower. It has a state sport called jousting. That is horse racing.

The three major regions are Appalachian regions, Garrett County, and the Piedmont Plateau. Appalachian region is rugged mountains and is called the Backbone Mountains. Garrett County is the highest point in the state. Nothing is higher that it is. Piedmont Plateau is a hilly, rich land.

The coastal plain mountains and lakes are on the west side of the state. In Maryland, people live on the western shore.

There are a lot of interesting things that happened in Maryland. In 1655, Stone led 130 soldiers to try to recapture Maryland. In 1694, Annapolis becomes the state capital. In 1729, Baltimore is founded. In 1769, the Mason-Dixon Line is officially recognized as the boundary between the colonies of Maryland and Pennsylvania. On April 28, 1788, Maryland becomes the seventh state to enter the union. In 1879, Johns Hopkins University is founded. In 1952, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is opened. It linked Maryland’s eastern and western shores.

There are a lot of fun and interesting places to go and have fun when you have free time. They have great beaches and parks to go to relax. Things they like to do are race, fishing, sailing, swimming, hunting, and hiking. Horse racing is one of the most popular spectator sport in Maryland. Maryland Hunt Cup is a big special race. Other races are called the Preakness Stakes and the Maryland Million Dollar Day.

Maryland has some special customs. Maryland day is celebrated in March and they have a fine arts festival. They also have the Bay County Music Festivals, a Flag Day celebration, the Maryland State Fair, and Jousting Tournaments.

Manufacturing is very important. Many factories print and publish steel, tinplate, aluminum, metals, iron, and transportation equipment. Maryland also makes electronics and medical supplies. They also grow plants and vegetables and raises animals, too. Things they raise chickens, horses, cows, and some turkeys. These animals are raised and sold for meat and money. Some things they grow are dairy, meat, beverages, and seafood. They grow tobacco its main corp.

Maryland also has natural resources. They have above ground natural resources like seafood, beaches, and oceans. They also have below ground natural resources like mining, stoning, and sandgravel.

I had fun learning about Maryland. I learn a lot of things about it. You would like it too because it is an interesting state.
