From Kansas, I drove west to Colorado. My
first stop was in Colorado Springs, the home of the U.S. Air Force
Academy, one of the U.S. Olympic Training Centers and Pikes Peak. It
sure is a busy city. From there I drove to Denver. Denver is called the
mile high city because it is 5,280 feet above see level. WOW! As you
look west the Rocky Mountains just seemed to rise into the sky! It was
sunny and warm in Denver but I really wanted to see what it was like in
the Rockies so I drove west into the mountains. My first stop was Vail.
Skiers were everywhere! I kept driving west until I reached Aspen. What
a place to ski! I rode the chair lift to the top of one of the ski runs.
I could see for miles and miles! It was so beautiful. Aspen used to be a
mining town but today it is filled with shops, skiers and great
restaurants. Aspen is full of hikers and musicians in the summer. From
there I drove northwest to the Dinosaur National Monument. I saw a lot
of cattle ranches along the way. Colorado is sure a great state. Maybe I
should drive to Utah to see if there are any more dinosaur bones there.
