She toured Europe in the 1930's and made lots of new friends. When she came home the Daughters pf the American Revolution would not let her sing at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. because she of her race. Elearnor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's arranged for Marian to sing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. More than 75,000 people came to hear her sing. Marian retired in 1965. She is a great woman.
