Gae Aulenti
Gae Aulenti changed an old train station into a
grand museum right in the middle of Paris, France. Gae was born in Pallazzolo
dello Stello, Italy in 1927. She graduated from Milan Polytechnic School of
Architecture in 1954, and started a provate practice in Milan, Italy. Gae
designed furniture during the 1960s. In the 1980’s she laid out a magnificent
museum in Paris from the Orsay railroad station. Today the Musee d’Orsay holds
French art dating from 1848 to 1914. There you can see painting by Renoir,
Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Cézanne and other famous French artists.Gae was awarded 1st prize at the 1964 Milan Triennial for her work in Italian Pavilion. For her layout of the Musee d’Orsay she was named Chevalier of the legion d’Honneur by the French government.
Some of her famous works are the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy, and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco (2000-2003).
