Bonnie Blair

I am doing a report on Bonnie Blair so far she is a fabulous woman and I am glad that I am doing a report on her. She was born on March 18, 1964 and she was born in Cornwall, New York. And guess what, Bonnie is still alive! Bonnie started stating when she was only two years old when her family moved to Champaign, Illinois. Ice skating was a popular activity in Champaign. Bonnie was the youngest of five children. When she was a child and teenager she won a lot of medals and ribbons.

She also started training with the Olympic coach, Mike Crowe. But skating was so expensive. She was lucky to get help from the Champaign Police Force. The raised money for her by selling T-shirts and bumper sticker.

Bonnie is an Olympic champion speed skater. She won a gold medal in speed skating in the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, Canada. She also won a bronze medal in the same Olympics. In 1992 in Albertville, France, Bonnie won two more gold medals. Bonnie's last Olympics was in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway. She had about 60 family members there to watch and cheer for her as she won two more gold medals.

Bonnie was on the cover of Sports Illustrated three times and was named Sports Illustrated's "Sportswoman of the Year" in December 1994. She retired from speed skating in 1995.  Bonnie is married to David Cruikshank, a speed skater. They have one child (a boy) and another due in July, 2000.
