Debbi
Fields is an amazing woman who started a small cookie business that became
famous all over the United States. She was born on September 18, 1956. You may
know her as Mrs. Fields from Mrs. Fields Cookies. Everybody thought that
choosing a small cookie business for her job was crazy. Even when she was a
child she dreamed of having a cookie business, she was so good at making cookies
that everybody called her the "cookie kid." When Debbi was 13 she got
a job as a first official female foul line catcher for the Oakland Athletics'.
Her weekly salary was $5 and she used it buy real butter, real vanilla, and real
chocolate chips to make cookies. Debbie established her cookie company in the
1977. She started her business in a place called Palo Alto, California. Today
Mrs. Fields has over 650 locations in the United States, and over 65
international locations in 11
different countries. Mrs. Fields' stores were first known as Mrs. Field's
Chocolate Chippery. She changed the name to Mr. Fields' Cookies so that she
could sell other kinds of cookies.
Debbi herself said, "everybody said I couldn't do it, I didn't have a job, I didn't have money, I didn't have formal education, I just had a recipe, and a dream." Debbi Fields stuck to her dream and today her cookies make everyone smile!
