Peggy Fleming

Peggy Fleming was born on July 27, 1948 on a farm outside San Jose, California. Peggy has three sisters. She began figure skating when she was 9 years old. She first competed in the United States Championships in 1962. She is famous because her she represented the United States in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France and won the Olympic gold medal for Women's figure skating. That was the first time the Olympics were shown in color and on live TV. She was only 19 years old.

After the Olympics Peggy turned professional skating with the Ice Capades and appearing on TV specials. She even made commercials! In 1970 she married dermatologist, Dr. Greg Jenkins. The live in California and have two sons, Andy, born in 1977 and Todd, born in 1988.

Peggy won five U.S. skating titles, three World championships and one Olympic gold medal. She was inducted to the USFSA Hall of Fame in 1976. In 1999, she was honored by Sports Illustrated as one of seven 20th Century athletes who changed their sport. In 1999, Peggy also became a proud grandmother to her grandson. Peggy is a survivor of breast cancer and still skates today.
