Dorothy Hamill
Dorothy Hamill was born on July 26, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Riverside, Connecticut. Dorothy was the youngest of three children; she had an older brother and sister. She started skating when she was 8 years old. Dorothy won her first title in 1969. Dorothy carried a lucky rag doll to all of her events. When she was young Dorothy was worried that she was not as graceful as former champion Peggy Fleming, so worked very hard on being a strong skater. Hamill Camel (a spin) is named after Dorothy. One of the charming things about Dorothy is still her smile. Whenever she steps on the ice, a charming smile still spreads across her face. Another popular thing about Dorothy was her haircut. Once Dorothy became popular, her haircut became popular too! When Dorothy was nineteen years old she won the Gold Medal at the 1976 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria.
Dorothy has a daughter named Alexandria. Dorothy Hamill was a very graceful skater and she still skates today.
