Michelle
Kwan
Michelle Wing Kwan was born on July 7, 1980 in Torrence, California. She grew up in California with her mom Estella, her dad Danny, her brother Ron and her sister Karen. Michelle started skating when she was 5 years old. Michelle's coach's name is Frank Carroll and her choreographer's name is Lori Nichol. Michelle graduated from Rim of the World High School and her friends call her Shelly.
Michelle trains at Lake Arrowhead and Los Angeles. The rink that she is training is Ice Castle's International and El Segundo, and her college is UCLA.
Michelle always wears her "good luck necklace" that her grandmother gave her. When she was younger, she had a pet squirrel that she didn't name!
Her sister Karen also skated.
In 1996 Michelle won the U.S. title and the World Championship crown at the age of 15! 1997 was not a very good year for Michelle but 1998 was much better! In 1998 she won the U.S. championships and Michelle won a silver medal for women's figure skating at the Winter Olympics in Nagano. She also had many other accomplishments. She won the US Championship in 1999, 2000 and 2001. She took second in the World Championship in 1999, but brought home Gold in 2000 and 2001.
