Tara Lipinski

Tara Lipinski was born on June 10, 1982 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has no brothers or sisters. When Tara was a little girl she loved to go fast. Her parents told her to go outside and run but Tara didn't find it fast enough. When Tara saw other kids roller-skating and found out it was faster than running, she immediately wanted a pair. When Tara got a pair of roller skates, she took lessons. When Tara was really good at roller-skating she entered a contest and won. Tara saw people ice-skating and saw that they went even faster, she wanted to learn how to ice skate. Tara's parents signed her up for ice-skating lessons, Tara was a little nervous. She got on the ice and was a little wobbly. After a few days in training she got better and better and started to skate fast and wasn't so wobbly on the ice. After a few months Tara got really good at ice-skating. She entered contests and skated with other kids and she found that more fun than most things she did. When Tara was really, really good she started skating in the competitions. Her mom and dad moved to Texas but Tara needed a different place to skate. She and her mom moved into an apartment in Delaware so she could be near her coach from the University of Delaware. She did not go to school, instead she had a private tutor. Tara had skated a long time and she and her family decided that she would get the best coaching at the Detroit Skating Club in Detroit, Michigan. When Tara got to the rink she was a little nervous but she soon got over it once she got on the ice. Tara is a very good skater and won the Olympic Gold Medal in 1998.  Tara still skates but now she is a professional. She is happy to have time to spend with her mom and dad.
