Mary Tyler Moore
Mary Tyler Moore was born in Brooklyn, New
York on December 29, 1936. She grew up in Southern California. When she was still in
school, she danced on stage and commercials, for Happy Hotpoint appliances. By 1958, she
was having small roles in TV shows. In 1961, she became a star as Laura Petrie on The
Dick Van Dyke Show. Some of the other shows she was in included, Breakfast at
Tiffany's and Thoroughly Modern Millie and the Elvis Presley film Change
of Habit. (All these films and shows did not did not do so well.) Her most famous
show The Mary Tyler Moore Show won 4 Emmy awards. An Emmy award is an award for
the best shows shown on television. She has diabetes. She works as a volunteer for the
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, too.
