Georgia OKeeffe
Georgia OKeeffe was
born in 1887 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Georgia was the second of seven children and she
was different even as a child. She always wanted to be an artist. When she was twelve she
started private art lessons.
Georgias family moved to Virginia where she went to boarding school. She really started to draw and paint well. After boarding school Georgia went to the Chicago Art Institute. There were very few women who were professional artists at this time but she knew what she wanted to do.
One day a friend sent some of Georgias drawings to a man named Alfred Stieglitz. He hung them in his art gallery. Georgia was very angry but ended up marrying him later on. Georgia lived in New Mexico where she did most of her beautiful paintings.
Georgia died in 1986. She was 98 years old. If she did not want to be an artist so badly, we would never have seen her wonderful paintings. She made the way for other women.
