Dorothea Tanning

Dorothea Tanning is an amazing artist that is still alive and going on 98!!!!! She was born on August 25, 1910 in Galesburg Illinois. Dorothea Tanning didn’t have such a big family. All she had was her daughter and her parents. For her education, she studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago School in 1930 and then went to New York City where she spent her time studying art in galleries and museums.

Dorothea Tanning is most famous today for being the fourth wife of one of the gods of Surrealism, Max Ernst. Dorothea wrote a few books on art, which amazing pictures were noticed. As you probably already know she is an amazing artist and she still gets most of her awards on her pictures that she painted and drew.

As Dorothea was growing up, she lived in Paris for 28 years. She moved to New York and exhibited with the Julian Levy to meet the German painter Max Ernst in 1942. She married Ernest four years later and was his fourth wife. Ernst had introduced her to the circle of the Surrealists. Her best work shows that she became a member of that group for a while, but later her paintings became even more amazing than they already had been. That is how she became an amazing artist.

There are many other interesting facts about this amazing artist, Dorothea Tanning. Well, you already know that she is 97 and going on 98, but I bet none of you know that she painted over 34 pictures and or sculptures!!!!
