Sarah Whalen

Boom goallllll! Sara Whalen makes a beautiful pass to Hamm for a goal. Sara Whalen was born in Natick Massachusetts on April 28, 1976. Sara was a founding player of the WUSA and played defense and midfield for the New York Power, part of the WUSA. She went to Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, where she played basketball, soccer, and ran track. She went to the University of Connecticut where she majored in educational psychology. In the 1997 NCAA Soccer Championship semifinal Sara scored both goals as Connecticut beat Notre Dame. She was a first team All American in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and in 1997 she was Player of the Year. She even had her jersey, #8, retired when she graduated. 

Sara has appeared in 65 international games as a member of the U.S. National Soccer Team. She was a member of the 1999 World Cup Championship team and the Silver Medal winning 2000 Olympic team. 

Sarah is studying for her Masters in School Psychology at Fordham University. She is also planning her wedding to Jon Hess, a member of the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse.
