WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE 10/13 – 11/6
We’re once again partnering with our PTA to run a winter clothing drive that starts next week. Gently used coats and jackets, gloves and hats are all appreciated
UPCOMING WEATHER AND OUR RECESS POLICY
I know it's early, but I want to get out in front of the weather with our recess policy and how I make decisions around our 20-minute recess. First, my goal is to always have children outside. Here are our guidelines related to the REAL-FEEL temperature in Sleepy Hollow during our recess windows (11:22-12:02 / 12:05-12:45)
- 32 degrees or greater: OUTDOOR RECESS
- 20 – 31 degrees: INDOOR (GYM)/ OUTDOOR (FULL ACCESS) OPTION – Student Choice
- 19 degrees and below: INDOOR RECESS (GYM)
Note: Elementary and middle schools could have different recess restrictions if the weather conditions change between the two time slots.
The good news is that the kids love the gym, which we section off for different sports themes, and we have activities, mats, and sitting areas in the gym lobby as well. In addition, the library is open for middle school students who want to get some work done.
I’m fine with snow, but not excessive mud (or with our fields, it’s actually a nasty mix of mud and goose poop) – safety always comes first, and remember, we still have two hours of school left once they come back inside!
Weather-related reasons we DON’T go outside:
- High wind advisories
- Air quality advisories
- Active rain (light mist isn’t a huge deal)
- Damaged/flooded/icy conditions (recess could still be outside, but just not in those areas)
- Extreme heat or extreme cold
STUDENT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES OVERVIEW
It's fair to say that we have a tremendous amount of enrichment and support happening at lunch/recess and after school every day. I know you received details during fall registration for offerings as they related to your child's grade, but I also want you to see everything that's happening, so you have a sense of the breadth - it's very impressive! Please be on the lookout for a ParentSquare post next week from Mrs. Papa, our Coordinator of Student Activities and Transitional Programming. She's going to share a detailed overview for your reading pleasure. (I was going to add it here, but it will make the Friday Flyer too long!)
MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS – FEEDBACK ON THE TRANSITIONS
Middle school parents - If you haven’t had a chance to give us some feedback on the opening weeks of school and how things are going with your child, please make sure you re-visit the ParentSquare form that Mrs. DePaola sent out so we can check in!
8TH GRADE PARENT INFORMATION
Reminder for eighth grade parents -- please make sure you review the information Mrs. DePaola shared on ParentSquare regarding diploma name requests and the upcoming high school school visit and selection process information!
