Let the HAWKS Journey Begin!

Skip the “I’m bored,” anthem this holiday recess with the expanded HAWKS Journey Enrichment Experience!
Building on last year’s inaugural HAWKS Journey program, the district is pleased to offer two more sessions of enriching activities and fun. The district will be offering two sessions, Session 1, “Grow Together: Collaboration and Community,” will take place Dec. 22-23. Session Two, called “Think Big: Creativity and Problem Solving” will be held on Dec. 29-30. Both sessions run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will be assigned grade band cohorts, with Pre-K through First Graders, Second through Fourth grades and 5th through 8th Grades.
Transportation will be provided for Pocantico residents and breakfast; lunch and snacks will be provided.
“We are leaning on the components of the Portrait of a Graduate, the HAWKS pledge and school-based work to develop themes of enrichment,” program coordinator Kerry Papa said, adding that excitement is growing for the newly expanded program.
Ms. Papa explained that each session will be hands-on and screen free and will offer life skills and ways to build community. She has been working with the HAWKS Journey team and they have developed unique activities for each session. Marina Pisto will be leading STEM activities, Jaqueline Santilli will lead athletic fun and Chef Melissa Alvarez will oversee the cooking adventures.
“It allows for enhanced engagement for kids during extended breaks from school,” Ms. Papa said. “It helps support kids and their families over these extended periods when kids may feel disconnected from their community.”
Ms. Papa is one of a few who may be wishing for snow during this time, as it will allow for some time outdoors in a winter wonderland. Regardless of what the weather does, Ms. Papa assured that time spent out of doors are all scheduled into the day.
Aside from outdoor activities, students will have time to engage in STEM related activities, also cooking, art and team building projects. There will also be time for a community service project and Ms. Papa is in the process of planning a field trips as well.
Registration opens on Wednesday, November 19th at 9 a.m. for Pocantico Hills students via the CampSite Parent Portal on the website. Families have the option of registering for one or both sessions, space is limited and registering early is encouraged.
If space allows, registration will be open to out of district students beginning Wednesday, November 26.
