AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ARE COMING SOON!
CLUBS, INTRAMURALS, & EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES (ELOs)
At Pocantico, we pride ourselves on the variety of afterschool offerings we provide for our students. By next Friday, we’re going to be sharing with you registration links for all the different after-school activities available at your child’s grade level this fall, which run from 3:00-4:00. The extent of our offerings is a tribute to our dedicated staff, and the massive student enthusiasm and involvement is a tribute to your support of our school! That said, I want to just explain things here first, because it can be confusing or overwhelming.
First, the types of offerings:
INTRAMURALS
Intramurals run in three seasons (like sports – fall, winter, and spring) for kids in grades 3-4 and in grades 5-6. There are different sports featured during each season for kids to choose from. Intramurals meet twice a week for roughly 6-9 weeks, depending on the season.
EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES (ELOs)
ELOs also run in three seasons, like intramurals. ELOs are themed, six-week activities (not necessarily sports-related) that meet once per week. Different ELOs are geared toward different age ranges, but there are over a dozen of them so there’s always something for everyone!
CLUBS
Clubs, like ELOs, meet once per week, but they run for either half the year or the full year. They are more in-depth, involving more direct instruction, deeper learning, and culminating projects. Clubs are mainly for students in grades 5-8, but some also include elementary grades.
FAQs
Can I sign my child up for Intramurals AND an ELO if they both meet on the same day? YES, if there is only one conflicted day. If both Intramural days are conflicting, then you have to choose. We tried very hard to avoid having that type of conflict on the schedule, but there were times it was unavoidable.
Can I sign my child up for activities on different days of the week? WE ENCOURAGE IT – YES! We want your child to stay with us every day if we could, which is why we tried to offer exciting options throughout the week.
Can I sign my child up for a Club if it conflicts with an ELO or Intramurals? Sometimes YES and sometimes NO, and I’ll try to make that clear in the registration form. Some clubs build upon prior learning over time and are hard to “jump in and out of” - those types would be No. Others have more of an independent learning component, or have new activities each week, that make it easier to miss and return to – those types would be Yes.
Is my child guaranteed a spot in an activity? NOT NECESSARILY. ELOs have limited enrollment and are first come, first served. Generally, our staff can accommodate larger groups for Clubs and Intramurals, so roster spots are less of a concern.
What do these activities cost? $0.00 per person – THEY ARE FREE!
